In today’s world, Information Technology (IT) is considered an essential part of human life, and the need for practical programming in this area has become universal. Therefore, to develop Persian applications, commercialize them, and help talented individuals enter the job market—especially given the tremendous talent of our country’s youth in mobile programming—attracting these talents is a vital duty for all stakeholders in this industry.
In this regard, we are proud to announce that after successfully organizing three editions of the Mobile Programming Marathon by the Sharif ICT Group from 2014 to 2016, with the extensive participation of professional programmers from across the country, the 4th Mobile Programming Marathon was held from September 14 to 16, 2017, at Sharif University of Technology.

Main Challenges of the 4th Programming Marathon

To select the main challenges for the competition, the industry relations committee met a week before the event, inviting representatives from active organizations in this field. Based on the needs of these organizations and current technology trends, the following challenges were selected:

Health

• Health in urban life in cities with polluted air
  
• Gamification for health improvement
  

Financial Technology (FinTech)

• Reward-based, lending, and equity crowdfunding
  
• User behavior analysis in finance and banking
  
• Electronic wallets and micro-payments
  

Social Responsibility

• Raising awareness and promoting culture regarding the water crisis
  
• Improving the quality of life for specific groups, such as veterans, people with disabilities, the visually impaired, and the elderly
  
• Traffic control games to promote better driving habits
  

Sports and Entertainment

• Sports fan competitions
  
• Games focused on discovering personal interests, dreams, and desires

Judging Process

During the 48 hours, teams will design and implement their applications in one of the selected categories.
Each category will have its own judging criteria, so the project development process must align with these criteria to achieve the highest scores.
The first judging panel consists of experts, each specializing in one of the mentioned topics. Throughout the competition, the judges visit every team. Besides providing necessary advice and observing activities and progress, they discuss the methodology with the teams and gradually record their scores.
These individuals will evaluate your software based on the criteria of your chosen category.
The recorded scores will determine the best teams in each category.
Until the end of the competition, no one knows the results of this selection, so teams must continue their project completion and other necessary tasks as usual.
At the end of the 48 hours and during the closing ceremony, the names of the teams advancing to the second stage will be announced gradually.
Each team has a 10-minute opportunity to present what they have designed and implemented.
The second judging panel will record their votes based on the criteria for each category.
The combined scores from the first and second judging stages will determine the ultimate winners.

Marathon Participants

Event registration took place in August 2017. During this period, 550 individuals registered and submitted their documents as part of 150 programming teams.
After reviewing the resumes and backgrounds, and considering capacity limits, 300 individuals in 90 teams were invited to participate in the competition.
These individuals consisted of students and graduates from top universities across the country.
Participants were invited from Tehran, Mashhad, Yazd, Kerman, East and West Azerbaijan, Ardabil, Isfahan, Bushehr, Khorasan, Khuzestan, Zanjan, Hamedan, Gilan, Hormozgan, Shiraz, and Mazandaran.
